MUTUS LIBER is a series of engraved plates from 1677, portraying the preparation of the Philosopher’s Stone, without a word of explanation by the alchemical author. The plates, given here in facsimile, are partly symbolical, partly pictorial, representing an alchemist and his wife engaged in chemical operations, such as sublimation, distillation, the hermetic sealing of flasks, and mythological figures apparently assisting in the esoteric processes.


A classic alchemical 'text' revealing hermetic secrets in plain sight while remaining Sub Rosa.
